Former Toronto Star publisher Joseph Atkinson was an exceptionally influential and successful Canadian. From the early 1900's until his death in 1948, Atkinson championed a host of worthy causes through his newspaper, including core values that live today in the minds of Canadians - from social justice to civic planning to fairness for workers to passionately helping underprivleged children. Upon his death, Atkinson was remembered as an integral forerunner in the campaign for old age pensions, mother's allowance, unemployment insurance and more.
